Health Guide for Pilgrims
Staying healthy during Hajj and Umrah
Recommended Vaccinations
- Meningococcal (ACWY) vaccine is required for the Hajj visa.
- Seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccines are strongly recommended.
- Consult your doctor about any additional travel vaccines at least one month before departure.
Daily Precautions
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially in hot weather and during outdoor rituals.
- Use sunscreen, wear a hat and carry an umbrella for shade during daytime rituals.
- Wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitiser, especially before meals.
- Rest when you feel tired. Hajj is physically demanding and your worship benefits from good health.
- Wear comfortable shoes for long walking distances in Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah.
- Report any fever, cough or unusual symptoms to your group leader or the medical tents immediately.
Medication
Bring enough of your regular medication for the whole trip plus a little extra, with a doctor's prescription in English. Store medicines in your hand luggage.
